why does it seem they know right how to pronounce Irish names like Seamus, Lachlan and Dun Laoghaire???
it's just they're popular and because of the culture??|||Its because the names conform to the pronunciation of modern English phonetics. When a G is followed by a H it becomes silent. Same with A and O, the A becomes silent. So long as Irish and English use the same alphabet, there won't be any issues in pronouncing Irish names (minus the accent of course).|||Of course they do, Scots built the foundation of this country and the Irish (later) added to the mix. Their cultural influences can be felt today.
